PHILIPPINE NAVY, JMSDF CONDUCT MARITIME ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITY IN SULU SEA

Sulu Sea – Philippine Navy’s landing dock, BRP Davao del Sur (LD602) undertook a maritime engagement activity with Japan Maritime Self Defense Force’s Escort Flotilla 1 composed of JS Izumo (DH-183), JS Murasame (DD-101) and JS Akebono (DD-108) early morning of June 28, Friday here at vicinity Cagayan de Tawi-tawi.

BRP Davao Del Sur accorded the customary meeting procedure with the flotilla which culminated with a photo exercise. JMSDF’s SH60K helicopters and a PN’s maritime patrol aircraft, C90 participated in the activity.

This cooperative engagement is a prime opportunity for the PN and JMSDF to enhance interoperability and strengthen relationship and partnership among like-minded navies to promote peace and stability in the region.

The JMSDF’s Escort Flotilla One is scheduled to call on the Port of Subic this weekend and further interact with the personnel of the PN. This further highlights the continuing commitment between the two navies as in building capacities towards the peaceful use of the seas.

  • The Philippine Navy (PN) successfully conducted the Initial Planning Conference (IPC) for the 17th Western Pacific Naval Symposium International Fleet Review (WPNS-IFR) last 17-18 September 2019 at the Diamond Hotel, Malate, Manila.
