   MAKATI CITY, Metro Manila- The three-day preluding workshop for the Western Pacific Naval Symposium (WPNS) 2020 hosted by the Philippine Navy culminated in a closing ceremony held at Shangri-La Hotel here Thursday, February 13.

Rey Dela Cruz, expressed his great appreciation for the hard work and lively participation of the delegates during the workshop and for their commitment to continue to work together to make the WPNS a venue for extra regional cooperation and confidence building.

WPNS Workshop 2020 Updates

   WPNS WORKSHOP 2020 UPDATES| Syndicate discussions on the future direction of Western Pacific Naval Symposium (WPNS) were conducted on the second day of the WPNS Workshop 2020.

Participants were divided into three working groups to tackle, deliberate and exchange ideas on topics such as the Code for Unplanned Encounters at Sea (CUES), Business Charter, and Terms of References. Each group was expected to come up with final proposals to be presented to the body for deliberation.

The ongoing workshop serves as an avenue to outline the matters to be discussed during the symposium proper in May this year. It usually covers maritime issues of mutual interest; exchange of information; practice and demonstration of capabilities; and exchange of personnel.

Western Pacific Naval Symposium's preluding Workshop commences in Manila

   MAKATI CITY, Metro Manila- The workshop which precedes the Western Pacific Naval Symposium (WPNS), the biennial meeting of navies bordering the Pacific region, began here today with the Philippine Navy (PN) as this year's host.

PN Flag Officer In Command, Rear Adm. Giovanni Carlo Bacordo, was the guest of honor who led the opening ceremony at the Rizal Ballroom of Makati Shangri-La Hotel wherein representatives of navies from 23 countries in the Western Pacific Region are in attendance.   • The Philippine Navy (PN) successfully conducted the Initial Planning Conference (IPC) for the 17th Western Pacific Naval Symposium International Fleet Review (WPNS-IFR) last 17-18 September 2019 at the Diamond Hotel, Malate, Manila.

  • The primary goal of the WPNS is to increase cooperation and ability to operate together, and build trust and confidence between Navies in the Region by providing a framework to enable the discussion of maritime issues of mutual interest, the exchange of information, the practice and demonstration of capabilities, and the exchange of personnel.
